Another batch of 266 Nigerians evacuated from South Africa arrived in Lagos on Friday as the Federal Government stepped up efforts to bring home citizens who registered for the voluntary evacuation exercise.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the development in a statement issued on Friday by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, saying the third evacuation flight from Johannesburg was operated by Air Peace and landed at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, at about 10:40 a.m.

The ministry said the returnees were accompanied by officials of the Nigerian Mission in South Africa throughout the journey back to Nigeria.

It also disclosed that the evacuation operation is still ongoing, with two more flights scheduled in the coming days to airlift the remaining registered Nigerians.

The statement read: “Two additional evacuation flights will be operated in the next few days to ensure that all those who registered for the process are brought home safely.”
