Former Lagos West Senatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the centre of Excellence, Otunba Segun Adewale, popularly known as Aeroland, has resigned from the party.

This is coming after nearly two decades of active involvement in the political party’s activities.

In a letter addressed to the PDP National Chairman, Adewale said his decision was informed by what he described as long-standing internal conflicts and the actions of some party leaders, which, according to him, have weakened the party both in Lagos State and nationally.

He specifically accused PDP chieftain Chief Bode George and his allies of undermining the party’s electoral chances through alleged alliances with opposition parties. Adewale said George had failed to secure victories at his polling unit, ward, or local government level, yet continued to wield influence within the party while promoting division.

Adewale recalled that George had, on different occasions, encouraged members to defect to rival platforms such as the Labour Party and the ADP for personal interests, sparking prolonged disagreements with loyal members. He added that the continuous factional battles have eroded the PDP’s relevance in Lagos politics.

“For these reasons, I, Otunba Segun Adewale, resign from the PDP. I will communicate my next political direction to my supporters soon. At the moment, my priority is to focus on my business and family, which I have sacrificed for over 15 years in the service of politics,” he stated.

Adewale contested for the Lagos West Senatorial seat in the 2023 elections under the PDP but lost to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.

The letter read “RESIGNATION FROM PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP)

“I formally renounce my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately. Nearly two decades of contributing to the party’s progress in various roles have been overshadowed by recent events that make my departure necessary.

“Key factors driving my decision include Bode George’s actions and those of his associates, who consistently undermine the party’s electoral success by collaborating with opposition forces. Despite his electoral failures – unable to win his polling unit, ward, or produce a councilor – the party leadership has rewarded him, absolving him of wrongdoing while he exploits Lagos PDP for personal gain with opposition elements.

“Bode George has previously urged members to defect to Labour Party and ADP for selfish motives, sparking prolonged conflicts with loyal party members opposing his anti-party stance.

“The unending internal power struggles have severely damaged PDP, transforming a once-leading party into a weakened entity at both national and state levels.

“For these reasons, I, Otunba Segun Adewale, resign from PDP. I’ll communicate next steps in my political journey to supporters soon. Currently, I’m focusing on business and family, neglected over 15 years of political pursuit.”

You have done well Sir , I would have advised not to outrightly quit politics though it’s good and most preferred to concentrate on family, however you can still play a mild politics but with the ruling party, The party we choose define who we are not unlike in the 1990’s which is the other way round the person who you are defines the party you are.
My opinion please , which you the very best with your family. Welldone you have really done 👍 well.
