The Lagos State Government will repatriate 396 beggars apprehended during a statewide environmental sanitation operation after profiling them and providing support where necessary.

The disclosure was made by the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in an update posted on his official X handle on Tuesday, outlining the outcome of the latest enforcement exercise in the Centre of Excellence.

Wahab said operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps carried out the operation as part of the state government’s sustained efforts to sanitize Lagos and curb illegal activities.

“A total of 396 beggars were apprehended by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps as part of the Lagos State Government’s sustained efforts to sanitize the state and curb illegal activities,” the commissioner said.

He explained that the affected persons would undergo profiling before being transferred to the appropriate authorities for their safe return to their respective states.

“The apprehended individuals will be profiled, provided with appropriate assistance where necessary, and handed over to the relevant authorities to facilitate their safe return to their respective states,” Wahab stated.

He said the exercise reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining public order, protecting the environment and promoting a cleaner, safer and more secure Lagos for residents and visitors.
